IPL 13: Bravo suffered a groin injury, says Fleming

Sharjah: Stephen Fleming, coach of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), said a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals. Dwayne Bravo suffered a right groin injury and that is why he could not bowl the last over during Delhi’s innings.

Delhi Capitals (DC) chased a total of 180 with five wickets in hand and one ball left. Shikhar Dhawan achieves his first century in IPL and he remains unbeaten at 101. With this victory, Delhi has now reached the points table of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 14 points from nine matches.

Delhi needed 17 runs from the last game, and Axar Patel bowled three sixes in the innings bowled by Ravindra Jadeja to give a victory to the Shreyas Iyer team.

“Unfortunately Dwayne Bravo was injured so he could not bowl the last over. Of course he is a death bowler. This is how our season went. Jadeja was not going to bowl at death, but with Bravo injured we had no other option. We did well to create a situation where it could have worked for us, but we have to keep working hard and turn it around, ‘Fleming told the post-match press conference.

‘It looks like he (Bravo) has a right groin injury, it was obviously serious enough to stop him from coming back to the field, he’s just disappointed he could not make the final, it’s very good in the team for. He will have to be re-evaluated in the future, at this stage you would think it would take a few days or a few weeks, ‘he added.

CSK eventually dropped quite a few catches from Dhawan and the left-handed batsman from Delhi took full advantage of that. On the fielding work of CSK, Fleming said: ‘Well, we gave Shikhar Dhawan some lives, he played well, we had the chance to take his wicket early, but we did not take it. He played aggressively and he stayed up there with the required run rate. If we had taken him out we would have been able to place their middle lower order, the match would have been different and dropped three or four catches he was a little too much. ‘
