IIIT Hyderabad establishes Smart City research center

Hyderabad: The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) has set up a Smart City Research Center (SCRC) with support from MEITY (Government of India), Smart City Mission and the Government of Telangana.

As part of the initiative, Living Lab plans to create an urban area that will promote three value domains – social, economic and environmental.

IIITH existing centers will provide their expertise to the research center in areas such as signal processing, smart and automated building design, optics and photonics, flexible electronics, embedded systems and internet of things, research and development in fundamental aspects of computer systems, etc. .

“IIITH’s Living Lab will work with government bodies, startups and large organizations on Smart City solutions. The IIITH campus contains various IoT verticals related to air quality, building energy, water quantity and quality, street lighting, etc. IIIT-H plans to transform the campus through the Living Lab into a platform for learning, experimentation and the display of new ideas and approaches, ”said Professor Ramesh Loganathan of IIITH.

The Smart Cities Mission aims to promote economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by harnessing local development and technology to create smart outcomes for citizens.

In this ambitious project, 100 cities are covered for five years with a budget of 100 million per city per year.
