Focused on staying hungry, says chief executive Shikhar Dhawan

Hyderabad: Delhi Capitals jumped to the top of the standings again after dropping the Chennai Super Kings on Saturday on the back of their starting candidate, Shikhar Dhawan’s first IPL century (101 not out) and some good hits from Axar Patel in the final round of Ravindra Jadeja.

This century was his third consecutive 50+ score in the tournament and he said he has always had a good lead even before these three good beats. β€œI always focused on my process. Even before these three strokes I played well and fixed the ball. I remained positive and confident. I have a lot of experience behind me. Every time I score runs but make mistakes and climb out. “So I analyzed what kind of shots I should play on different courses,” said Dhawan after the victory.

He said of the final over, where they needed 17 runs: ‘Sam Curran bowled well. We knew Bravo could not bowl the final and Jadeja had to bowl. We are both left and the small boundaries, and we have taken advantage of that. ”

He also praised the versatile Axar Patel, who was also impressive with the ball. “He’s a big asset to the side. If we demand that he come to bowl, he delivers it. He bowls economically and takes wickets. Even with the bat, as he played the final, he took the game away from CSK. Having a versatile quality makes a big difference on the side and we are happy to have him. ”

However, he warned that they do not want to overdo it. ‘It’s a great feeling because we’re playing as a team. Everyone does their job and that’s a good sign for us. We all stay hungry and make sure we focus on process. We want to stay fresh and not want to overdo anything, ”he concluded.

Meanwhile, CSK coach Stephen Fleming dismissed Dhawan’s isolated chances that made the difference. “We gave Dhawan some chances. We had opportunities to dismiss him early when he played aggressively. We should have gotten him early and put him under pressure. “The catches we dropped cost us today,” he said after the game.

He spoke about Jadeja bowling the final and revealed: ‘Unfortunately Dwayne Bravo was injured so he could not bowl the final. He is our death bowler. So we have no option and had to go with Jadeja. “Bravo suffered a groin injury and we have to determine and see how long it takes before he recovers,” he added.
